Everyone loves to travel, right? Especially if you’re going with a few friends you always have fun with. You get all excited and can’t stop dreaming about how awesome the trip is going to be. You start browsing around to find destinations, but then you realize…
1. The nightmare of dates
You have to find a week where everyone is free. You start proposing the first week of the next month, and quickly realize people are booked until the end of that month. Then you all have to request time off from work and get it approved for the same week. This can really be a hassle, we know. A tip is to try a weekend trip if you want to travel sooner, or if you want to go on a longer trip, make clear from the start that it’ll be a summer trip where people have the most likelihood of being free.
2. Group chat explosion
You created a group chat to keep things organized but it’s quickly escalating to way too many notifications at inappropriate times, and so much fluff that it’s hard to find the relevant information. You see some links and suggestions but at the end you don’t know what to do with them and how to find them again. This is one of the most frustrating parts of travel planning, and it’s what we are solving with the Curiooso app. We aim to replace group chats with a visual platform to communicate your travel plans.
3. Budget feud
Friend 1: “I found this super cool hotel, let’s go there!”
Friend 2: “Yes, amazing!!”
Friend 3: “But…too expensive…”
You may assume that you all have the same idea of what the trip will look like but it may not always be the case. Especially when it comes to the budget, it’s a good idea to specify it already before even starting to dream about the trip (boring, we know). It will keep you all more satisfied in the planning process 🙂
4. Relax? Run around exploring? Party?
It may be the case that you are very good friends and have similar interests. Then you won’t have a problem with this one. But a lot of times you may be one of those cocktail sippers on the beach while your friend is more of the mountain climber from dawn until dusk. The third one may be picturing a party hard trip while you and your friend want to go out for drinks but chill. Finding the right destination can be tough. Get together and come up with a few themes that appeal to you all, and from there start looking for destinations within those categories!
5. Hyping each other up
This is a great side effect of planning together! Usually one of you has more knowledge about a certain region and will get all excited and tell the rest about their past experiences there. They will play the “travel agency” role. They will find those hidden gems for you and their excitement will be contageous!
There are many more positive aspects to travel planning but today we wanted to highlight the frustrations that can occur. It’s normal that we all feel this at some point. The good thing is that at the end of the day, any frustrations you go through, you go through together 🙂 Also, it’s always worth it to get away and explore a new place. Stay curious.
